About HIV Is Not A Crime National Training Academy

HIV is Not a Crime V, the fifth national training academy to educate and train people living with HIV (PLHIV), activists, stakeholders and policy leaders to mobilize state-level advocacy to end HIV-related criminalization, will be held June 4 – 7, 2023, at Henry and Emory College in Emory, VA. HINAC V will include leadership institutes for Black, Latinx and white people dismantling racism in HIV spaces activists.

HINAC supports intentional and proactive involvement of community activists and PLHIV networks as part of a larger agenda to end disproportionate policing and incarceration of communities of color, trans and non-binary gender nonconforming individuals, sex workers, and substance users.

HINAC helps ensure that these grassroots advocacy and mobilization efforts are informed by the latest science and research, effective messaging and expert strategic guidance from experienced grassroots activists, public health, legal and policy professionals.

Updated COVID Protocol

(03/31.2023)

Since opening the abstract process for HINAC 5 the Executive Committee has finalized adopted COVID-19 protocols: Each person attending HINAC 5 will be required to provide proof of vaccination which includes at least two (2) initial vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) or one (1) Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine AND one (1) booster administered between September 2022 to Mid-April 2023. We will not consider waiving these requirements given our community agreements for safety and vulnerability of those attending.

If you have already submitted your vaccination records but do not fit the guidelines, you will be contacted to ensure your vaccination records are updated.

If you have received a partner organization scholarship or a scholarship via the competitive scholarship process we will need your verification by close of business April 14, 2023 otherwise, your transportation will not be arranged until valid proof of vaccination and booster is provided.  If you have already paid your registration fee to attend HINAC5, you will be given the opportunity for a refund if you do not meet the updated COVID protocol requirements.

If you  register and arrive at HINAC5 without providing proof of vaccination and are unable to meet the guidelines listed above prior to your arrival, you will not be allowed to stay on campus or attend HINAC5 in person and the expense to return home will be your responsibility.

We have set up a virtual component to HINAC5 for individuals who cannot attend in person with a reduced registration rate.  With using a hybrid model for HINAC5, we hope that there is an attendance option that works for you.
